How To Write A Blog Post That Is Reader-Friendly
Do you know how to write a blog post? Perhaps. But most people get it wrong and wonder why they fail online. There are millions of blogs online and your blog is just another blog unless you have something unique to bring to the table.
Most bloggers will slap up a block of poorly formatted text in hopes of getting a subscriber or making a sale.
Staring down a post that looks like a thesis paper makes me break out in hives! The written word is the most powerful form of communication on the internet, but you have to make it reader-friendly.
Like a gourmet meal that was prepared with loving care and is pleasing to the eye, the same should hold true for your blog posts.
Here are a few helpful tips for creating a reader-friendly, well-written blog post:
1. Your Title Is Everything!
Which one grabs you:

Your title is the first thing people are going to see when they visit your blog. Put out the welcome mat! Write enticing post titles that will make your visitors want to know more!
Use a title that will grab your reader’s interest and make them want to continue on. Your title should lead them into what the post is about. The biggest mistake you can make with a blog post is write a juicy, eye-catching blog post title and then give them dribble in the blog post body.
That’s like someone promising you a frosty mug of icy cold beer and getting a glass of warm brew with no head.
You must deliver on your promise in your post.
2. The Long and Short of It
Do you know how to write a blog post that gets read? Here’s a secret – use shorter blog titles! Readers tend to skim and if you present them with a long, drawn out blog post title, they may lose interest. Shorter titles generally have more impact. Sometimes, however, your title will need to be longer to get your point across. If that’s the case, get to the punch early in your headline.
For example:

3. Break Up Those Paragraphs!
Nothing is more annoying than trying to read a blog post that’s nothing more than a huge block of text. Your paragraphs should be no more than 2-3 lines long.
4. Use Images To Tell Your Story
You loved to look at picture books when you were a kid and things haven’t changed. People love photos and images because they embellish what you’re writing about. Images help tell your story and they’re visually appealing. They also help to draw your reader’s eye down the page and keep them engaged. Be generous with your photos and images and your readers will love you for it!
5. Grab Em’ With Lists
People love lists and they’re a great way to organize key points in your post.
For Example:
What you’ll need: flour, butter, sugar, cocoa, milk, pastry brush, non-stick spray, 12×12 rectangular baking sheet, aluminum mixing bowl, wire whisk, measuring spoons, measuring cups, rubber scraper
or

Much easier on the eyes, yes?
Lists tend to communicate more effectively and organize your points in an easy-to-read list.
6. To Bold or Not To Bold
Using bold text not only highlights important key points of your blog post but it breaks up text visually. I love using bold text and italics to get my point across about certain post points.
7. Your Call To Action
One of the most IMPORTANT keys on how to write a blog post is – you MUST tell your readers what to do next in your post. Ask them to take some sort of action.
Your call to action might be anything.
- Give them a link to another post in your blog that is related to the one they just read
- Invite them to leave a comment so you can get their thoughts on your blog post
- Ask them to share the blog post with someone else
- Ask them to leave a comment about your blog post
Don’t assume that your readers will know what to do next. The key is to ask them to take action!
